Although the process for internationalization is challenging, some firms have been successful in establishing a worldwide presence. This article investigates three models for international expansion–organic growth, affiliates, and specialized funds–through case studies of Warburg Pincus, the Carlyle Group, and Advent International. The analysis facilitates understanding of the operational details of the three models as well as their advantages and disadvantages. ER -
