With contributor revenues down, many not-for-profits are suddenly faced with the reality of having to start operating very differently. No longer can they go to a significant donor and easily get a check or obtain other sources of funding. As a result, how non-profits handle their money has been placed under greater scrutiny. And, various constituencies (board members, contributors, members of the community, politicians) now hold management more accountable. This article examines how the not-for-profit sector is changing their thinking, strategies, and operations to better cope with the changing environment and to prepare the foundation for future growth and success.
