An analysis of the framework and operating principles of venture capital reveals areas of improvement that will minimize the effects of negative external economic forces. An examination of the historical impact of venture capital and the factors precipitating its downsizing reveals opportunities for a resilient venture firm less affected by market forces and able to deliver optimal returns on investments. The author presents the research within the context of the four phases: investment screening, selection, monitoring, and exit.
